  • TV Show is out | What's the future of foundation-tv-show.com ?

Hi everyone, Foundation finally started with 2 awesome episodes that each person will have appreciated differently. WATCH FOUNDATION ON APPLE TV+ In any case, the enthusiasm was strong for the start of the series. Look what you have been doing to the site since yesterday ! I take this opportunity to announce what will be planned for the next few months and the direction the site will take. Of course, don't hesitate to propose suggestions in the comments and even to contribute to this adventure here. First of all I would like to say thank you When I launched this site in October 2020, I didn't think it was going to grow as big as it has today. At the time of writing this article we have reached : +1200 followers on Facebook +560 followers on Instagram +160 followers on Twitter (ok this one not really impressive ^^) +100 members on the fan community mobile app launched a few days ago So thank you for being part of this community which I hope will grow more and more over time. Remember that you will largely decide the future of foundation-tv-show.com through your participation. In 2021, the good old fan sites are in decline alongside the various social networks. I want to avoid this and offer a website where you will be immersed in the universe of Foundation. Of course while also finding useful information on the series and a community of committed fans. So what's the plan for the next few months ? The series has started and many new actors/actresses and characters need to be added to the website. As you can imagine, this is something that takes time when you are alone and I will do my best to make the updates as soon as possible. As for the characters, each will have their own description and photo gallery. This is what will take the longest time to set up. This is why any help is welcome so don't hesitate to provide a description for one or more characters. It is also possible to send screenshots to feed the photo gallery of a particular character. If you are an actor or actress it can also be very interesting to have a description of your character from your point of view. The contact email is : contact@foundation-tv-show.com These are the main additions that will be made to the site in the coming months. What direction will the site take? Another important thing to communicate to you is the direction the website is going to take. It will now be focused on the community part and in particular the mobile application which is a social network entirely dedicated to the Foundation series. The blog will continue to be fed from time to time but it will only be a secondary part. Why ? At first, I planned to add the latest news, my opinion and my theories, but I decided to put this project on hold for 2 reasons : 1. The latest news, opinions and theories can be fed in real time by the fan community itself via the forum and the mobile app. If we take the aspect of the latest news, it is impossible for me next to Twitter to offer the latest news in real time on the site unless I am on the site 24 hours a day. :) 2. Time has always been my worst enemy. So I had to make a choice on the parts on which I wanted to concentrate (at the beginning of the article). However, the blog can be fed in a collaborative way. So if you like to write, don't hesitate to submit an interesting article about Foundation and it will directly gain visibility with a large audience. You will of course be mentioned as the author. The contact email is : contact@foundation-tv-show.com But never forget that the choices I made now for the site will have little influence on what will become of foundation-tv-show.com in a few years. It will always be the community that will make the future of this website ! It is the very foundation of everything and I thank you for being a part of it. Sincerly yours, Kevin dang

  • Foundation new teaser scene-by-scene breakdown

On June 28, 2021, Apple TV released a new Foundation teaser, one of the most anticipated series of 2021. We also know that the official release date is set for September 24, 2021. This series is eagerly awaited but also many fans of Isaac Asimov are apprehensive about the result. This new teaser has been talked about a lot in recent days. It reinforces the fears of some people while others are amazed by this new teaser which makes Dune's one less impressive (according to some tweets I have read). If I had to sum up this teaser in a single sentence : "Epic battles in space and on the ground like Star Wars, political and power conflicts like Game Of Thrones". In this article, I will therefore detail the scenes of this teaser according to my own eyes and feelings. You can of course react by commenting if you want to share your opinion on the teaser. If you like to write, don't forget that places are open as a volunteer writer to contribute interesting content about Foundation here : https://www.foundation-tv-show.com/contribute If you haven't read the books yet, the article may contain possible spoilers. Although I try to avoid them as much as possible and keep it as general as possible. So I recommend you to read the books before continuing to read this article. "You can't save yourselves. But you can save your legacy." These sentences takes up part of the work of Hari Seldon (portrayed by Jared Harris) who has worked all his life on the Psychohistory and to preserve the knowledge of humanity. In particular with the first foundation and the encyclopedists who can be discovered in the book from the first book of the trilogy "Foundation (1951)". So we can guess that Legacy means Humanity knowledge. 2. "You can't be here. You know that." This (fortunately) does not change the "Prelude to Foundation (1988)" and "Forward the Foundation (1993)" books. Eto Demerzel always seems to be pulling the strings on the Emperor's side. 3. "The might of the Imperium has brought peace to thousands of worlds. But the beliefs of one man. Now threaten the empire's very existence. The man has amassed a following. People who hinge their hopes on every word Seldon utters. Words have a way of fanning into wildfires." As in the books the Emperor (portrayed by Lee Pace) is wary of Hari Seldon's speeches predicting the end of the Empire and a long era of chaos that will follow. Many people trust Hari Seldon's predictions which makes him dangerous in the eyes of the Emperor. 4. "(Hari Seldon) I'm not a revolutionary. (Gaal Dornick) His calculations are correct. The Empire is dying. (Hari Seldon) Order will vanish. Wars will be endless. (Gaal Dornick) Only we can shorten the darkness." Despite Hari Seldon's predictions being correct and confirmed by young Gaal Dornick, he has issues with Trantor's justice. In the photo above from the teaser, Hari Seldon appears to be in Trantor's courthouse like in the first book of the trilogy : "Foundation (1951)". What is not in the books ? 5. "(Brother Dusk) I can't be the first one who wanted to see my youngest self. (Brother Dusk) Strange. (Brother Dusk) Watching yourself being born. (Brother Day) Our genetic dynasty has reigned for almost four-centuries." A dynasty of emperor clones over a period of 400 years. It's a surprising element which is not present in the books and which is a very interesting scenario worked out by the production. Is this a nod to Star Wars and its clone room ? Either way, it got one of our Facebook page followers excited who wrote the following comment : "A genetic dinasty of clone emperors ! A great idea ! Given the dynasty's ongoing success and popular approval rate through the centuries, this would stave off power struggles and uprisings, bringing stability to the empire. But of course, this is also a major factor in psychohistorical formulas and calculations. Why didn't Asimov think of this before ?" Alex Altorfer. Don't hesitate to react in comment to this part of the teaser. I'm really interested to have your thoughts about it ! Others interesting scenes Awesome images of Trantor The great and mighty Trantor, the center of the Galaxy. 40 billion inhabitants. The teaser made us want to discover it in more detail with these few photos ! Epic battles in space and on the ground Yes, we all know that "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". But admit that it's still badass to see Salvor Hardin with a weapon ! Even if some purists will fall from their chair ... BUT (theory) Maybe it's a production twist. In the teaser, they show us a Salvor Hardin totally different from the one we know in the book which is a controversial subject. When the series begins, they could simply show us the youth of Salvor Hardin before he became mayor and the event that taught him his famous quote : "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". The battle scenes of the teaser are impressive and will probably give dynamism to the series. After all, Isaac Asimov never described the battle scenes in his books ... Clarke Peters as a Mysterious Character According to IMDb, we don't know the name of this character portrayed by Clarke Peters. We only know that he will be present in 7 episodes. Prime radiant ? Gaal Dornick portrayed by Lou Llobell appears to activate the Prime Radiant which projects equations to predict the future. Vision of chaos Difficult to define the context of these explosions and images of catastrophes. Predictions or real events in the present ? Maybe you will be more inspired than I on this subject ? In any case, these scenes are impressive. Alicia Gerrard as Yate Still too little information about this character. But we can at least see Alicia Gerrard for a brief moment in her role. We know a little bit more about 2 characters What a pleasure to finally see the talented Kubbra Sait as Phara and the talented Nikhil Parmar as Freestone ! Now we know that they seem close to Salvor Hardin portrayed by Leah Harvey. One more light ... (In tribute to Chester Bennington from Linkin Park) We end this article with a mysterious man with a beanie. The clothes he wears are intriguing because they seem to come from our time and are very different from those worn by the other characters in the series. I am therefore curious to know the context afterwards. The luminous symbol also questions its effects. According to the teaser, he doesn't enlighten people for their sake ... And you ? • The Apple TV spaceship will land on Tuineje again for Foundation Season 2 !

According to Spanish articles from several sources : La Provincia, tuineje.es and Fuerteventurahoy. Apple TV has announced its wish to be able to shoot part of the second season of Foundation again on the Canary Islands and more precisely on the Fuerteventura island of in the municipality of Tuineje. As a reminder, Apple TV filmed part of Season 1 in the same location (see article). This is very good news for the municipality of Tuineje because the shooting has already left a profit of 25 millions euros thanks to season 1 and allowed the employment of a large number of people despite the Covid-19 crisis. The secound season of Foundation will open new opportunities for the islands. Esther Hernández (the mayor of Tuineje) and Nélida Padilla (the councilor for culture) visited the area of the municipality where the series is being shot and met Juan Cano, producer of the project and of the Sur-Film company. (Photo source : La Provincia) The production company has announced to the city council its intention to shoot the second part of the series in the municipality which will be broadcast worldwide on the digital content platform Apple TV+. As a reminder, the shooting of this first season involved an investment of 30 million dollars (about 25 million euros). Esther Hernández underlined : "which has a great impact on the economy of the town and the island, because many have rented housing in the municipality and they consume in shops, in addition to the employment it has generated through the hiring of people from the municipality”. Overall around 600 people make up the production team. The cultural advisor, Nélida Padilla said : "The filming of this series, the first on the island of these characteristics, positions us as a natural setting ready to host major audiovisual productions". • Opinion and Theory about Foundation adaptation by Apple TV+

Foundation is one of the most anticipated series in 2021. On the one hand for the purist fans of Isaac Asimov from very the beginning and on the other hand by the new generation of viewers who will discover a part of the gigantic work of its author when the series will be available on Apple TV+. The production will therefore have to try to satisfy everyone. The same thing that the Game Of Thrones series must have done. Hoping that Foundation will have the same success thereafter. But a lot of people are still skeptical about this series especially with the first teaser/trailer which was broadcast for the first time in June 2020 and there is are lot of debates on this subject on the web. Purist fans wonder if the production will faithfully respect Isaac Asimov's books deemed unsuitable for the small screen. Other fans think it would take more action than you can read in the books to keep the TV Show from getting boring after a few episodes. Even if we have to highlight the fact that in the books it works very well thanks to the great writing talent of Isaac Asimov. It will therefore be very difficult for the production to be able to satisfy all viewers by finding the right balance between faithful adaptation and the way to consume a series in 2021 (as David Goyer, the showrunner, said in his interview in Malta). Maybe even later to avoid a final that will divide the fans (I'm still thinking of Game of Thrones ...). I think that nobody wants a big explosion ... In this article I will talk about the following topics : 1. Does the gender of the characters matter ? 2. Should we have battle or fight scenes ? 3. Will the series follow the chronological order of the books ? 4. Will the series really end after 80 episodes ? Before reading the rest of this article : - This is only my own opinion and my own theories on possible ways to adapt the series. You are of course welcome to react and give your own opinion and/or theory in the comments section with respect and constructiveness. - If you haven't read the books yet, the article may contain possible spoilers. Although I try to avoid them as much as possible and keep it as general as possible. So I recommend you to read the books before continuing to read this article. 1. Does the gender of the characters matter ? As we could see in the first teaser/trailer, Apple TV+ has already taken a lot of freedom with the adaptation of the characters in comparison to the books of Isaac Asimov. Some of the iconic characters who are meant to be men in the books will be women in the series. Indeed, Gaal Dornick, Eto Dermerzel and Salvor Hardin will be played by women whom I personally look forward to seeing them play these roles : Isaac Asimov had a great talent for imagining the future like his fictional character Hari Seldon, the inventor of Psychohistory. However, he couldn't be a visionary on everything and the times in which he lived did not facilitate the imagination for the lines which will follow. To some 21st century readers, his writing may seem sexist because it doesn't feature a lot of women as the main characters. Indeed, let's take for example the books of his trilogy: "Foundation (1951)", "Foundation and Empire (1952)" and "Second Foundation (1953)". With the exception of Bayta and Arkady Darell, there isn't any important women to the story. Moreover these women don't appear until much later and not in the first book (by publication date) which will be, according to the teaser/trailer of Apple TV+, one of the books that the series will talk about for the Season 1 with probably "Forward the Foundation (1993)" since we know that Eto Demerzel will be present. So you can easily imagine in 2021 the controversy over a TV Show which would not feature any female actresses. It is therefore for me completely normal that Apple TV+ has chosen to take the liberty in terms of characters genders. In my personal opinion, it doesn't matter whether the character is male or female. What interests me in an adaptation is the way in which the personality, the emotions and the actions of a character will be transcribed. Of course, everyone will have their own opinion on the number of characters whose gender has been changed. Some people even thinks that Apple TV+ should have remained faithful to the original work for this point. It is a sensitive subject to what I've read on certain discussion topics but which I couldn't miss in this article. 2. Should we have battle or fight scenes ? "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent" said Salvor Hardin. However, in the first images we have of her in the series we can see her holding a weapon each time. A bit contradictory for a character supposed to be a pacifist in the books. Don't you think ? One of the sensitive questions is whether there should be battles and fights or not. This might annoy some people but my answer is YES. This TV Show needs battles and fight scenes BUT not too much. I will tell you why in my opinion ! People who have read the books know that it prioritizes solving different storylines and crises through dialogue and not through epic battles and fights. The big battles are mentioned but we are never ourselves in the middle of one of them. Indeed, Isaac Asimov was popularizing science and his books remain very intellectual. It uses a lot of concepts like math, science and politics leaving very little room for action. If Apple TV+ followed exactly what was written in the books on screen, do you think that the most part of viewers who have never read the books are going to get hooked on the show ? And wouldn't someone who knows the works of Isaac Asimov be also disappointed if he was served on television what he has already read word for word ? It's a big risk to upset the habits of the majority of today's audience. Especially if Apple TV+ wants Foundation to become its Game of Thrones. With this comparison, how do you think those who don't yet know Foundation will react if there is no action but only dialogues ? In my opinion, they might run away and that would be the best way for Apple TV+ to stop the production of the series after 30 episodes ! I like this sentence which comes from a french article on numerama.com "You have to imagine a Game of Thrones of totally uncluttered space which only political dialogues and those of the Citadel would persist". Do you think that most people would have enjoyed a series on this path and that it would have been so successful ? Let's not lie to each other and we even see it with discussions on Reddit : the fan community isn't large. I'm sorry if I sounded harsh but I doubt that the ambitions of Apple TV+ are to satisfy only the r/asimov (8500+ members) and r/The Foundation (300+ members) subbredit. // And by the way also foundation-tv-show.com/forum that I invite you to participate. Support the little fan projects and not only the big discussion platforms. Don't let die the good old fan websites ! // In my personal opinion it is therefore essential that the production adds battle and fight scenes ! I think Apple TV+ wouldn't take any risk doing this because Isaac Asimov just mentioned them and never described them in his books. This would allow the average viewers to satisfy their desire for action and to be able to imagine it later if they decide to read the books. Of course I'm not saying that it will be necessary to put battles or fights in each episode because the goal isn't to make a cinematographic work like Star Wars but to find the right balance to put forward the Isaac Asimov's work and genius for everyone. For example, leaving room for the imagination to the producers for the scenes which are not described precisely in the books as the battles and fights but in return faithfully respect the events and dialogues which are carefully detailed by the author. In any case, never kill a main character in a battle or fight ... 3. Will the series follow the chronological order of the books ? At first glance, Apple TV+ seems to follow this path according to its teaser/trailer released in June 2020. Indeed, if we follow the chronological order of the books (not their publication date) the series seems to deal with books "Forward the Foundation (1993)" and "Foundation (1951)". As a reminder, here is the chronological order of the books : Prelude to Foundation (1988) Forward the Foundation (1993) Foundation (1951) Foundation and Empire (1952) Second Foundation (1953) Foundation's Edge (1981) Foundation and Earth (1986) We can guess it with the presence of Eto Demerzel portrayed by Laura Birn as well as the presence of Hari Seldon portrayed by Jared Harris, Gaal Dornick portrayed by Lou Lloubel and Salvor Hardin portrayed by Leah Harvey. We could imagine flashbacks from the book "Prelude to Foundation (1988)" perhaps in Hari Seldon's memories regarding the beginning of the psychohistory creation. Which could be an interesting idea from my point of view but which is only pure speculation from my part ... :) Unfortunately for the moment we haven't a lot of information to imagine very relevant theories on the continuation which could take the series about the chronological order of the events even concerning the book "Foundation (1951)". However, if you're interested in having a theory on how the series would be separated with 8 seasons, you can read this comment posted by Cosmo Explorer on a video from Foundation Era's Youtube channel : 4. Will the series really end after 80 episodes ? As we all know, David Goyer said during an interview in Malta that the goal would be to have a series of at least 80 episodes. So 8 seasons if there are 10 episodes each time. My theory about it is that the 80 episodes will follow the books from Isaac Asimov but if the TV Show works very well we could have maybe more episodes. But what end could we imagine to Foundation when we know that Isaac Asimov himself hadn't written it ? Here are the 2 possibilities I am thinking of : The least risky Apple TV+ decides to work with a talented author who has already proven himself with the Isaac Asimov's universe. I am thinking in particular of David Brin whose book "Foundation's Triumph" was adored and validated by Janet Asimov herself. The riskiest Apple TV+ decides to imagine an ending for themselves which in my personal opinion could end in disappointment for a lot of fans as it was for the end of Game of Thrones. As a reminder, HBO had proposed an ending for Game Of Thrones that the author of the books, George R. R. Martin, still alive hadn't yet written himself. With the disappointment of the fans he had made it clear in the media that it was an end but not THE END. There you have it ! My first article of opinions and theories about the series is finished. I hope you enjoyed reading it and that you will be kind to my English. My main language is French and I do my best to try to formulate my sentences in the best possible English ... Of course, feel free to react to this article in the comment section below to give your own opinion and/or theory about the series !

  • Filming for Foundation Season 1 on Apple TV+ is now finished in Malta

According to a press release from filmneweurope.com published on February 17, 2021 we learn that the filming of the first season of the Foundation series has now been completed to normally start in autumn 2021 on Apple TV+ (estimated launch period). There is still no official release date. The article tells us that the production spent more than 10 million euros on the island. Among other things, it employed over 400 crew members and 800 extras over a period of 4 months in total. The company Latina Pictures was in charge of the local filming for the TV Show. The production company used many different locations in Malta to shoot the scenes and in particular the famous war tanks on the island. Despite the difficulties due to the Covid-19, Malta remains a very attractive filming location for a lot of productions and in particular since the reopening of its airport last year. In 2020, Malta hosted 11 different productions which spent a total of 32 million euros according to The Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection, Clayton Bartolo. If we calculate this global amount of 32 millions with the 10 millions euros spent by Apple TV + : that makes Foundation one of the biggest productions on the Island and in Europa in general ! Important things to remember - Filming in Malta is now over - The estimated release period is Autumn 2021 - It could have 80 episodes in the future (see article) - Another filming location is on the Canary Islands (see article) Foundation trailer

(Photo source : Lovin Malta Youtube video) The Malta Archipelago is also a filming location for the Foundation series which is slated to air in 2021 by Apple TV+ (no release date known at this time). An article and a video interview published by the news outlet Lovin Malta tells us more about the shoot. We have transcripted and decrypted the interview. Video interview of David Goyer (showrunner) Interview transcription Interviewer : So a trailer for Foundation released in June last year. It went viral and it showed a lot of the snippets of the characters environments and planets in the series but then Finland had to stop all of a sudden. I'm curious to know was coming to Malta always a part of your original plan for filming or was this location decided later on and as a result of the interruption caused by the pandemic ? David Goyer : Malta was always part of the plan. We have a water planet as is evidenced by this image behind me and Malta has copious water tanks there aren't a lot of those in the world so we had always intended on coming to Malta. What did change we shut down like most of the world did for about six months after the pandemic was we decided to expand our footprint here in Malta and now some of the locations here are representative of another world in the Foundation show as well. Interviewer : And how has the film commission adapted to your production needs and met your Covid-19 requirements ? Have they been satisfactory they've ? David Goyer : They've been amazing and i'm not just saying that when the new variant started appearing in the UK. We were worried that we wouldn't be able to bring any of our actors or crew from the UK and they all quarantined for 14 days but the film commission and the minister really worked with our production and allowed us to get waivers to safely bring them in here and to allow us to continue filming. Interviewer : Excellent and in the past you had mentioned that Foundation there were many attempts to create Foundation and and adapted to the big screen but they never really worked out. What has changed this time around in this because in the span of one year we're not just getting Foundation but we're also getting another epic sci-fi tale Dune do you think there's a kind of resurgence in the sci-fi genre ? David Goyer : I think there's definitely a resurgence the sci-fi genre typically what happens when times are tough is people look to genre as a form of escapism. That's something that shows like Foundation can do exceptionally well but also it's the advent of all the streamers the audience is changing the way that we're consuming stories is changing. Game of Thrones is really the first of these big giant novelistic shows and you know now with Foundation we can tell the story hopefully over the course of 80 episodes 80 hours as opposed to trying to condense it all into two or three hours for a single film. Interviewer : Absolutely. My last question is one of the actors performing in Foundation is Lee Pace and ironically Pace is a Maltese name but we pronounce it Patch. Of all the characters who feature in Foundation, who do you think is most well suited or well adapted for a Maltese lifestyle ? David Goyer : Well Lou Llobell who plays a character called Gaal Dornick. Gaal Dornick comes from a water world and she herself is very comfortable in the water. Her father is an amateur spear fisherman and so we've been filming for two weeks with her on the water, in the water tanks, underwater in the insert tanks and so surely Lou slash Gaal Dornick is probably the one that would be most comfortable in Malta. Interesting points to note about the interview Malta has always been in production plans as it has many war tanks compared to other parts of the world where there are only a few or none. Despite the health situation due to the Covid-19 and the 14-day quarantine for the film crew, the authorities in Malta were very accommodating in allowing them to continue filming. The production therefore does not seem to have been affected too much which is good news for all those who are looking forward to the series. The general public has changed the way they consume stories. David Goyer therefore always has the big challenge of being able to find the right balance to be able to meet the expectations of early fans and the new generation of audiences to honor the work of Isaac Asimov. "You know now with Foundation we can tell the story hopefully over the course of 80 episodes 80 hours as opposed to trying to condense it all into two or three hours for a single film". Have you read that ?!? Probably the most interesting point. This would mean that David Goyer's ultimate goal would be to have a series of at least 80 episodes ! Which would mean around 8 seasons of 10 episodes. We hope that this plan comes true like Hari Seldon's plan ... :-) Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick is very comfortable with the water due to his father who is an amateur spear fisherman. We can update a little bit her actress page. BONUS POINT : David Goyer wears a "Terminus" collar size. :-) What do you think about this interview ? Tell us in the comments section below !
