So far Foundation has had a SF fairytale vibe with a touch of maths, which I like. If it goes into SF horror direction, I'll be horrified and stop watching. Episode 8 was nasty but tolerable. If it goes much further in that direction, maybe I won't be watching the second season. If I wanted to watch the Alien franchise, I'd go and watch that, not some sort of hybrid between it and Foundation.

It is his son and I have a feeling he too will have a kind of sixth sense in a similar way to Gaal.

I have been thinking about the 878 days, on the grounds that high-budget TV series don't have random numbers, only Easter eggs. These are my two favourite ideas: 1. The maths idea 878/323 is a good approximation of number e, to 4 decimal places. (Number e is the base of natural logarithms, and anybody who studies maths to a high enough level will know about it). It's especially easy to remember because 878-323=555. Number e is needed to describe the Gaussian bell curve, which is an essential tool of statistics, and psychohistorians need to be familiar with it. 2. The history idea 878 AD isn't a very interesting year. It's in the middle of the Dark Ages, it has a couple of big battles in it, but lots of years have battles. But the Galactic Empire is inspired in the Roman Empire. And the Romans counted years from the foundation of Rome. 878 AUC (Ad Urbe Condita) is 125 AD, and a much more interesting year. It's in the middle of what's been described as the Golden Era of the Roman Empire, and it's when the Pantheon was built. Other parts of the world were prosperous, too: the Parthian Empire in the Middle East, the Kushan Empire in India, the Han Empire in China, and even the Javanese calendar starts on this year. Long-distance trade was happening, and a few years later there were reports of Roman merchants arriving in China, and Roman coins have been found that appear to confirm this. Surely the contrast between the sad state of the world in 878 AD and the prosperity of 878 AUC would be of great interest to any psychohistorian.

There are some general similarities, but I wouldn't say it goes as far as being a deliberate call to the Event Horizon movie. The Invictus ship isn't made up of three perpendicular circles of a sphere, it's three circles that can be concentric and the two inner ones can rotate on the same axis, in opposite directions.

I also assume it is a technology owned only by Emperors, or it would disappear by de decline of the Empire, such as other technologies.

I'd like to know how a space elevator of that size could be brought down by two bombs carried under the skin by two men. How big could those subcutaneous bombs possibly be? Kinda hard to make them nuclear. And if they're not, they couldn't take out enough to bring it ALL down. This isn't like a 9/11 and the twin towers being taken out by a plane. It's an enormous structure that's not subject to gravity in the way an earthly building would be. And how in the world did those two get past security? Where's the guy with the wand taking them aside and patting them down?

I believe Salvor Hardin is Gaal daughter. I need to rewatch Episode 2, Gaal had a child growing inside her. I recall the doctor monitoring her said they would take it out because they are not supposed to carry them in the womb while they are on board.

Yes I really enjoy this episode with Gaal's background and what happened to Gaal after she was ejected. I look forward to see what will be the Empire reaction after the destruction of his spaceship. 🔥
