Actually, it's deviating from the story already in some ways. I'm not sure that Raych and Gaal even meet at all in the books (the Foundation is big enough that not all main characters need to meet), while in the series they have a major relationship. And Gaal is a minor character in the books, but she seems to have become a combination of Gaal, Manella and (probably) Wanda. Also, to me it seems to be implied that Gaal somehow stays around for a long time, which doesn't happen for any of those three characters in the books. But then, Foundation was never really about the characters, so I see taking major liberties with the characters as acceptable, as long as the main ideas in the books get to play out.
