- why is there a space elevatorIn Foundation Discussions27 octobre 2021@D. Thorn I'm going with the mediocre, substandard security angle because I don't think the writers went through all the thought experiment of whether or not it was some unique anti-matter weapon. In other words, over the course of let's say a century (or two), no one thought of blowing up the tower so security was basically the usual automated suitcase bomb sweep and when the motive arrived, a group of terrorists bought a hi-tech subcutaneous nano-explosive. Realize, the 9/11 terrorists got through Boston's airport security because the ground crew were not trained to notice box cutter knives vs kitchen ones and that's because for years, the ones who tried to breach security usually stuck to the usual disassembled guns, etc, which get picked up by a trained security force rather quickly.0
- A thread for people who love the show.In Foundation Discussions3 avril 2022I love the show, but i realize there is some bad writing & some disappointments; I was hoping to see some resemblance to my favorite scenes. I think a lot of the plot/script problems stem from the streaming show format. 10 episodes, each needing a cliffhanger ending, and all of has to stretch out or compress in order to create a conclusion with a teaser at the very end. The same problem occurs to a lesser extent with the millions of trilogies out there. The middle book usually is full of padding & fillers.00
- HealthIn Ideas & Contribution2 septembre 2022Enclomiphene is mostly prescribed and taken orally in the form of tablets. Many companies have released their enclomiphene capsules to treat problems with low testosterone levels https://www.valhallavitality.com/blog/oxandrolone-anavar-oral-versus-vs-sublingual-troche-delivery . There is no medically proven evidence for the use of enclomiphene injections or injections. For men, doctors recommend an enclomiphene dose of 12.5 mg to 25 mg to increase testosterone levels. For women, a dose of 25 mg to 50 mg is prescribed, depending on need and situation. You can learn more than I told you on this site.00

- I'm not moved by Episode 8In Foundation Discussions13 novembre 2021@Maria White " I guess that luminism is a religion that doesn't care for outward material things. They live a primitive, simple life on purpose. Maybe they don't even want to have a lot of water, and the Emperor water offer was him showing he didn't understand the first thing about the religion. And pilgrims are supposed to share this ascetic attitude, that's why there isn't even a proper hospital." 🙄 Sorry, Maria. Not buying it. I mean, I appreciate your loyalty to the show, and if you love it you love it. Fine. But the thing is you shouldn't have to come up with guesses and ideas to fill in all these blanks. If any of what you're saying is the case, then we should have been SHOWN this BY THE SHOW. But nowhere and at no time in the show did any of the Luminism priestesses or anyone in charge say to the Emperor "no, no, Emperor, we don't want or need water..." OR even "we vow to follow a primitive life, free of any technology, and rely on the goddess to heal us so if you get an infection on your pilgrimage you're SOL." Quite to the contrary. All the high up folk said directly to him that they were in dire need of water and were all delighted (except Z.H. there) about his offer to help them with their water problem. An in just about every religion we know of, the faithful are well taken care of by wealthy patrons. For example, monks may take a vow of poverty, but wealthy patrons will build them a monestary so they can do their holy work of praying and helping people. Even in the most aesthetic places where monks live on the streets, they rely on patrons to put food in their begging bowls. And Luminism sure isn't impoverished when it came to the costumes of the priestesses. Or that they can travel to and from different planets. So, SOMEONE is donating something to the religion. The problem is, there's no way to believe that this religion has 3 trillion followers given what we're seeing. In the end, my grievance here is that the show needs all these excuses and guesses from you. That's NOT a good show. Good writing should never, EVER require the audience to fill in the blanks of anything that is in any way important for them to know. Like how a religion works, Or what rules a robot must follow and why. We should KNOW what laws of robotics D. follows and WHY her assassination of this woman was so true to her programing that she would "rip her apart" as she said, rather than let her get away alive. And where and when, exactly DID she say that she no longer followed the three laws? WE know this is Asimov. We know the robotic laws. Unless we are flatly and clearly told that she has been reprogrammed to the point where she has to kill if ordered to kill...then her actions make no sense. They just don't.0
- Why is the Emperor so put out by Hari?In Foundation Discussions22 octobre 2021Oh, I agree the Emperor is worried, which is why he exiled Hari. But what I don't understand is WHY he's taking Hari seriously at all. The problem here is the scope of the Empire. There are all these planets and they have trillions of people. TRILLIONS. Out of those Trillions there must be billions that send letters to the Emperor every day saying "I can predict the future!" And I'm sure there's a billion imperial offices whose job is to read such letters, cull out the crazies, and send the rest up to the next million offices to be culled, and moved up to the next million offices, and culled and moved up....until they reach high officials. How did Hari's letter get to the Emperor? His thesis had to have been read by those in lower positions first...why didn't they toss it out? Why let it get into the hands of the Emperor? Did the prizes and acclaim he won as super-math-genius get him friends in high places and given him a direct line to the Emperor? Or was his following loud enough to gain that kind of attention? And even so...why did the Emperor take Hari's predictions seriously over all BILLIONS of predictions he has to get every day? I'm sorry, but it makes no sense. There's no hint of why the Emperor would ever take Hari's precitions more seriously than if Hari was basing them on astrology. Not if Hari's formulas read as nonsense even to other mathematicians. And if he has taken Hari seriously, that raises another question: why the public trial which gave Hari a pulpit to spread his predictions? Why not get rid of Hari quietly (execution or exile) if the goal is to make everyone forget about Hari and his predictions? Hari's famous enough that the barbarians blame him for the destruction of their worlds. It seems a very big blunder by this this super smart Emperor to have given Hari that kind of lasting fame.00

- Trump and the Mule - politically similar? In Isaac Asimov's Discussions1 octobre 2022Life has totally imitated art! I wrote a story Foundation's Martyrs, https://archiveofourown.org/works/37686856 about the ending of 'Second Foundation' and how the actions of Toran Darell led to a fascist takeover on Terminus. Now I'm writing a series, Guardians of Seldon's Plan, https://archiveofourown.org/series/2973816 about the history of the Second Foundation from the year 3 F.E. Every time I need a tyrant or villain, I just dip into Real Life for an example!00
- Please Explain the Multiple Cleon ReplacementsIn Foundation Discussions11 novembre 2021Maria White said: "I think the emergency replacements are somewhat inferior, because what I've seen so far makes me think that downloading a human brain into an AI isn't a very good copy of the original person." The inferiority of a human brain downloaded into an AI in no wise proves that a human brain, downloaded into an organic, human brain anatomically exact to the original, would likewise be inferior. Until we see such, I'm taking the writers at their word. They say, "Freeze Dried Brother Dawn can replace original Brother Dawn and be exactly 'right'..." This is stated as a fact. So let's take it as such. Okay, freeze-dried Brother Dawn is growing along with regular Brother Dawn to replace him if need be. And exactly HOW does this work? I mean, if original Brother Dawn is a problem (not exact enough) then downloading HIS brain into the freeze-dried one won't solve the problem. You still get the faulty Brother Dawn only now, maybe, he can see colors. So, Whose brain gets downloaded into freeze-dried Brother Dawn to make sure he's problem free? And if you have a perfect 17 year old Brother Dawn on file to be downloaded into the freeze-dried one...why do you have to raise one from birth at all? Why chance that you'll end up with a defective one? Oh, and can I just say...all of this has led me to an unsettling thought.... ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS*** Are these mutations in the the current Brother Dawn, who is thinking of making a break for it, how the show is going to end up with the Mule? I know the books never explain where the Mule comes from. Frankly, I like that. But it seems to me that tv/movie writers who take massive liberties with their source material, and who clearly want to use that source material as a place to show off all sorts of story ideas they've had over the years, but never before got to use.... Those types of writers tend to want to answer questions that the source material left unanswered. Including questions better left unanswered. Like: "where did the Mule come from?" I hope I"m wrong about this. But this mutation in Brother Dawn is either going to end up a shaggy dog story (he and/or the girlfriend dies tragically and the story was all there as a character study rather than furthering the plot) OR....or it's leading to something down the line. Maybe the Mule? 🙄0
