- Won’t Say I’m Disappointed…In Foundation Discussions2 octobre 2021https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hari_Seldon#Forward_the_Foundation "Seldon becomes involved in politics when Eto Demerzel becomes a target for a smear campaign conducted by Laskin Joranum. He eventually takes Demerzel's place as First Minister, despite his reluctance to divide his attention between government and the development of Psychohistory." I would assume that counts as attempting to slow the fall from within?0

- Force Fields like Wi-Fi?In Foundation Discussions23 octobre 2021You have a point that force fields are rather confusing in the series. They certainly don't look like any sort of physical technology that could conceivably be developed in the future. In good old-fashioned SF, force fields were roughly spherical, as you would expect of any physical effect. In the series, the Emperor has a force field that somehow follows the contours of his body, and to add to the implausibility, comes from a bracelet. So probably a better interpretation of the force field is "whatever it is that protects the Emperor". With that point of view, it makes sense that individual imperial ships don't have it. The Imperial Space Force as a whole may be part of what is protecting the Empire, but no individual ship has the force field. The force field of the Foundation is then "whatever it is that protects the Foundation". And to the question of whether there is any backup, I think we'll find out when Gaal gets to Helicon, whether that's some sort of backup to the Foundation or what.00

- I'm not moved by Episode 8In Foundation Discussions11 novembre 2021@RandyO "The issue here is that the Emperor took on a religious (or so-called spiritual) challenge and needed to 'win' it." Yeah, I didn't buy that either. I mean, is it ever really explained why this dirt poor, water desperate planet is so important that Cleon has to have his puppet leader in place? My one guess is that the "theme" of this series is the power of religion, and the one thing Cleon wants is to keep the leadership of this popular religion out of the hands of someone adverse to him. But we're never given any indication of how popular and influential this religion is beyond this planet. And as he easily kills her off the dissenting leader with undetectable poison, why go through all that other stuff? He could have just sent an assassin before she started bad-mouthing him and avoided having to prove himself. Which, again, is unbelievable. We're told that he's never felt pain or deprivation or experienced burns or wounds. Yet he's going to manage that long trek in the desert over hard rocks, BAREFOOT, in blistering heat that gives everyone the worst sunburns, and no water? Even if he's the best specimen of a human being ever genetically created there's no way he's going to manage all that unless he's dealt with it before and is prepared. His first step, his first "OUCH, that hurts!" would be the end.0
- Robotic LawsIn Foundation Discussions7 novembre 2021FULL AGREEMENT! I was really annoyed this this episode. Known to the point of being ingrained to anyone who reads Asimov, and as quintessential to Asimov's universe as the Vulcan salute is to Star Trek are the three Robotic Laws. Demeterzel should NOT have been able to kill, not knowingly. Excepting perhaps if she was protecting Cleon from bodily harm. That's Asimov 101 and to go against that is to undermine everything that makes an Asimov robot an Asimov robot. The writers seem to think they're writing a Dune (prequel?) here. Where everyone carries and uses poisons and political rivals are taken out with casual ease. I know this show hasn't been keeping even to a skeleton of what's in the books (maybe a shadow of them?), and I've pretty much shrugged my shoulders there. But I thought they'd have sense enough to at least keep the robotic laws. To so blatantly toss those out the window really makes me roll my eyes and give up on this series, and its writers, having any respect at all for Asimov or his fans.00

- how is there oil and coal on the planets (in the book)In Foundation Discussions13 novembre 2021@Wayne Sayers but the question is still online, if mr. Asimov was science fantast, why he didn't (in contrary to Stanislav Lem) explain (in his view) the nature of the cosmic ships movement through galaxy? Later, in his 4-th book of Foundation he wrote about magnificent experince of placin hands on the computer screen, and than computer forced neurons in brain, showing the scape of galaxy, like symbiosis between brain and OS. But still, no scientific Imagination in real description of moving thruogh billiards of light years...0
