Well if it was after the fall of the Empire than I might not be surprised about the plow, but I get your point. There is no space elevator in the book. I mean I think we can all safely assume that was an event carried out for dramatic effect, but you know even today we use things that have existed for centuries in more modern forms. I guess you could state the space elevator itself was a sign of the empire’s stagnation made manifest.

But I certainly understand how explorations of war & peace, fallen empires, dark ages, human avarice, religion & technology could never be as captivating as Black Wonder Woman getting laid and blasting away at CGI aliens. I can recall more compelling plotlines & dialogue in the Marvel comics I read as a kid. The producers of this joke are clearly catering to the lowest common denominator. No shame in that, obviously. For details on how a space elevator would work and could be built, I recommend reading "The fountains of paradise" by Arthur C. Clarke. We don't know the mass of Trantor, but if density is similar to Earth we can estimate it as roughly 30% of Earth (correct me if I'm wrong). And a Trantor day is 1.08 Galactic Standard days, that I think we can assume are Earth days. And if all my calculations are correct, that would mean that geosync orbit would be about 70% of the Earth's geosync orbit. So yes, that would be very high, and since Trantor's radius is roughly 2/3 of the Earth's, that view where the planet looks very small seems about right.

I felt the same way when I saw it but I'm willing to bet it's just the Emperor's that have them. Where as anyone (at least the super important people) could in the Foundation. But we'll see.

I think the Emperor is going to arrive and a massacre will occur or will be avoided leading to The Foundation’s first victory in a crises.

And I doubt the emperor's know how to create anything of that magnitude, the only question is, how long is Demerzel going to stick around.

Gaal is also the author of Hari's biography and she labeled him as a murderer....i bet he staged the star bridge attack. She's probably one of the 6 that'll last through the seasons. A space elevator is an energy-saving device. The minimum amount of energy required for lifting a given mass to a given height above a planet can be precisely calculated. A space elevator is a device that allows you to lift that mass for an amount of energy so close to the minimum, that it should be better than any other method of propulsion, including exotic technologies we don't know anything about. So the question should be rather: Why wouldn't everyone on Trantor use the space elevator to go into space? But presumably there are practical limitations on its use.

@The Mule (Admin), of course, we are assuming Apple will release FOUNDATION simultaneously worldwide. This is only an assumption. The avant premiere may apply only to the USA. If that's the case, then Foundation would only be viewable elsewhere later, perhaps 3 hours later, 1 AM in Brazil or 6AM in Switzerland. Or perhaps it's released at Midnight in every country, who knows, but I hope the USA release time is simultaneous everywhere.

Actually, to have a space elevator you need to have the center of mass at the geostationary orbit which is actually 22,236 miles up. So many space elevators in theory will be around twice that length, or will have a VERY massive counterweight past 22,236 miles so that as I said, the center of mass is AT 22,236 miles. Not sure where you got 26 miles from...
