- why is there a space elevatorIn Foundation Discussions3 novembre 2021Sure, but that is purely up to the reader. Either way, they were guests invited to play in the grandmaster’s backyard, but I have rarely heard their names come up when people talk about the books so I think it is up to the reader. As it is, I am more interested in Asimov’s books when it comes to Foundation. As I noted before, my mentioning Rand and Huxley was a joke. You can say I am unfunny since humor is completely subjective. I am just a fan here. Nothing more.1
- Brother Dusk SpeculationIn Ideas & Contribution23 septembre 2021Thanks for all the descriptions you provided ! Let see when the show begins if we can keep it or modify a little bit 🙂10
- Space Elevators Should Not Extend That Far!In Foundation Discussions5 octobre 2021We should consider that Trantor is 200 million square kilometers and the Earth is 510 million square kilometers, or about 40%, so the geostationary position must be about 8.894 miles. Still, it's VERY high.10
- Livros da FundaçãoIn Fórum português23 août 2021Hi ! Thank you for your participation. I will answer you in English. Sorry for the delay by the way. You will have to have a little patience before a Portuguese community is created because the site still has only about thirty members. But that will probably come later when the series begins. 😊 I can't wait for our mobile app to finally be available on IOS and Android. This will allow many more people to join this forum and participate actively like you. With the various social network applications (Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) it's difficult in 2021 to keep a fan forum alive. But we will soon have a social network dedicated to Foundation ! 😉10
- Episode Three (Spoilers)In Season 14 octobre 2021The show is great by itself. The design, OST, cinematography is top of the class. I'm sure the jigsaw pieces will fit, and I'm not anxious about it. Nevertheless, it is quite hard to make our minds up when we don't see The Foundation we were waiting for more than 40 years. I printed Salvor Hardin's sentences on t-shirts when everyone else was wearing Star Wars merchandising. The master of all negotiators! And now I just find a mix of a monster hunter and a nerd in her twenties. I thank the forum for giving us the chance of sharing these thoughts with sensible people like you all. And these mostly sad reflections don't avoid enjoying what appears to be a great show.1
- artistic license or artistic slaughter ?In Foundation Discussions16 octobre 2021I didn't see any "ridiculing" of Asimov's daughter. Esau didn't even mention her. He called the show a "mockery" and in that he took to task the show's creator and writer, not the daughter who trusted that writer to do right by the material. As for Asimov signing off on this....maybe he would. And maybe he wouldn't. Asimov was an old school science fiction writer, and felt strongly that science fiction ought to show future cultures and societies that are logical and consistent with the advancements envisioned in science and technology. The three writers he left the series to are certainly old school in that respect. Very hard science fiction and likely to care as much as Asimov did about big, galaxy spanning ideas, as well as logic and consistency. Granted, Asimov's stories have plenty of laughable blunders in his future societies, as all such old school stories do. No writer is ever free of the prejudices and blind spots of their own times and upbringing. But the 21st century creator/writer of this series should be doing better (Example: Emperor Dawn there need to ask anyone if certain leaves are poisonous? And prove they're okay by tasting them? Shouldn't he be able to look up the leaves on some form of Wikipedia? Maybe give them to the robot for a quick analysis?). That said, I'm sure Asimov would be very happy that his name and work are being made relevant again, which this show is certainly doing. But that doesn't make Esau's observation trolling--nor should you dismiss it by attacking Esau personally, rather than seriously discussing the problems he's having with it. Because this series has a lot of faults, and it isn't wrong to for anyone to express their disappointment in what the show promised and what it is delivering.1
- Brother Dawn (Older Variant) Speculation. In Ideas & Contribution23 septembre 2021I am putting in bold letters next to the heading Speculation.1
- Episode 4 - What are your thougts ? [Spoiler]In Season 112 octobre 2021The mental powers have two explanations in the canon. The first one is mentioned in the book Foundation and Earth where it is said that they come from the protagonist of the book Pebble in the sky -Schwarzman- who was subjected to an experimental treatment to increase intelligence. The second explanation is that powers were stimulated by R Daneel maybe through genetic manipulation10
- Space Elevators Should Not Extend That Far!In Foundation Discussions24 août 2021Agreed, Facebook groups are hard to compete with. As for the space elevator, I like the shot you used as background for this site much better than the other one I mentioned above.10
- Episode 4 - What are your thougts ? [Spoiler]In Season 111 octobre 2021I'm wondering about Salvor Hardin's mentalic powers, too. In the books, the Second Foundation has mentalic powers and psychohistory, the First Foundation has physical technology and (eventually) visible power. Salvor Hardin in the book knew a little bit about psychohistory, it looks like in the series she has a bit of mentalic powers instead. But what if those two aren't entirely separate things? What if mentalic powers make it easier for people to understand psychohistory in an intuitive way, or if an understanding of the maths underlying psychohistory can somehow unlock mentalic powers in some people? Then it would make a lot of sense for the Second Foundation to have both. I'm not even sure there are going to be two Foundations in the series. Terminus has at least one person with metalic powers and the Prime Radiant with all the psychohistory equations. It will be rather interesting if in the series there is only one Foundation and Arcadia's idea about the Second Foundation (they live among the First Foundation) is what's actually happening. Even if there are two Foundations in the series, in the books there were some Second Foundationers living in the First Foundation at least at one point, so there is no rule in the Seldon Plan against that. And I don't see why there would be a rule against any of those Second Foundationers being psychohistorians. The rule, if anything, would be that psychohistorians don't teach openly about psychohistory outside of the Second Foundation.10
- Space Elevators Should Not Extend That Far!In Foundation Discussions15 novembre 2021Here is an interesting article that elaborates on the size of the space elevator. Cheers! https://www.fxguide.com/fxfeatured/foundational-visual-effects/10
- why is there a space elevatorIn Foundation Discussions3 novembre 2021Well if it was after the fall of the Empire than I might not be surprised about the plow, but I get your point. There is no space elevator in the book. I mean I think we can all safely assume that was an event carried out for dramatic effect, but you know even today we use things that have existed for centuries in more modern forms. I guess you could state the space elevator itself was a sign of the empire’s stagnation made manifest.1
