Apple TV+ will launch in 2021 a Sci-Fi series called Foundation which is a television adaptation the of Isaac Asimov's literary work which has been an inspiration for Star Wars and Star Trek. Apple TV + has invested a huge budget in this first season which will contain 10 episodes and which could be compared to Game of Thrones in the future. Edit : The TV Show is expected to be launched in Autumn 2021 (September 24, 2021). What is Foundation ? Foundation is a science fiction book series written by Isaac Asimov that is a historical novel set in the future. The books feature humans, almost no robots and no extraterrestrials. His books received in 1966 the Hugo Awards for the best science fiction series of all time. His work would have influenced George Lucas for his Star Wars universe. At the beginning of the 13th millennium, a scientist named Hari Seldon invented a science called the Psychohistory which allows to predict the future. The most powerful government that controls the entire galaxy is the Empire. Using this science, Seldon predicts the collapse of the Empire within 3 centuries followed by an era of chaos for 30'000 years. However, according to his calculations, there is a possibility of reducing this era of darkness to 1'000 years and that is why he creates the Foundation in charge of bringing together all human knowledge. Future generations will have to carry out his plan by resolving various crises : political, economic and more ... What is the TV Show synopsis ? Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov, Foundation chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. Apple TV+ Teaser / Trailer : Who is the production ? Foundation is produced by the Skydance Media company that has made famous movies like Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Terminator or Top Gun. For this huge challenge executive producer and sowrunner Davis S. Goyer was chosen. He has participated in notable films such as Dark City, Batman Begins, The Dark Night, The Dark Night Rises and the Blade saga. He said in the Apple TV+ teaser that "People have been trying to make Foundation over 50 years ..." so we can probably expect something impressive about this upcoming new series. Who is in the cast list ? It's a pretty interesting cast list because there are actors with a lot of experience who have been in big movies or series playing a leading role like Jared Harris as Hari Seldon, Lee Pace as Emperor Brother Day, Laura Birn as Demerzel and Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk. However, there are also others relatively less known actors with an important role such as Lou Llobell as Gaal and Cassian Bilton as Brother Dawn. But the most striking fact about the cast is that Gaal and Demerzel will be played by women unlike Isaac Asimov's book where these two characters are men.
