Came across this website accidentally while looking for anything mentioning Isaac Asimov's FOUNDATION series vis-a-vis President Trump's megalomaniac stranglehold on the Republican Party. Didn't know that Apple was going to create a series based on Asimov's Foundation books (which I read in the 1970s-80s). Since Apple-TV will probably have first-time viewers of the Foundation mythos thru TV and may not have read the books, I won't give away too much posting this question: Will Trump's legacy in how he took the GOP by storm, in how he leaves the Presidency, and in how the GOP will function without him in the 2020s are all similar to the actions and fate of The MULE, who figures prominently in Foundation and Empire (still remember the book title !)? Any historians / political scientists who are fans of Isaac Asimov wish to comment on how life imitates art in this regard?

Life has totally imitated art! I wrote a story Foundation's Martyrs, https://archiveofourown.org/works/37686856
about the ending of 'Second Foundation' and how the actions of Toran Darell led to a fascist takeover on Terminus. Now I'm writing a series, Guardians of Seldon's Plan, https://archiveofourown.org/series/2973816 about the history of the Second Foundation from the year 3 F.E. Every time I need a tyrant or villain, I just dip into Real Life for an example!
When it comes to essay writing services https://ipsnews.net/business/2021/12/02/5-best-college-paper-writing-services-to-hire-an-essay-writer-from/ , you need to look for those that specialize in the subject you need help with. It is imperative that your essay writing service has experienced writers with master's or Ph.D. qualifications in the area of interest, and they should also be familiar with the specific academic expectations of your lecturers. By using a writing service that is familiar with your subject, you can be sure that your paper will be completed according to your specifications and expectations.
I don't see a parallel. As far as the Trumpoids, there were several decades of political disaffection and social trends that he was able to exploit, plus of course the backing of a powerful foreign entity. One could have charted the psychohistorical probability of a demagogue like Trump. With the Mule, he did not have to attract followers, exploit social movements etc. He just seized power at random because he could.
I wrote a story based on "Second Foundation" Chapter 21, "The Answer that Satisfied" and following chapter. The story happened because I was not satisfied with those chapters. But as the story evolved, I found the events of the Trump followers and Jan. 6 creeping into the story. I'm going to put the link here. Anyone who has read the book, you will understand the story. If you read the story, please drop some feedback. https://archiveofourown.org/works/37686856
Hi @Cliff Scott,
Welcome to the forum and I'm happy to tell you that you are the first member and post (except me) for the moment. As the TV Show isn't launched yet it will be quiet here so thanks for taking time to write it.
Glad you found out that Apple TV + was going to do a series about Foundation with the site. As you have probably noticed there will be some changes compared to the original books like for example some characters like Gaal who is a woman in the TV Show.
It's an interesting point of view and question. When the forum will have new members I hope that some of them will give their opinion about it.
I will of course take care that your post does not become a political debate which is not the aim of this site which must remain a space of entertainment and not a place of political divergence in real life. 😉
To get back to your question I've discussed about it with a friend of mine that is also huge fan of Isaac Asimov and who has read a lot of others Sci-Fi books.
Indeed there are similarities between fiction and reality. But is it a coincidence ? In almost all totalitarian or social Sci-Fi books (especially in the years 1950 to 1984) there is a megalomaniac who wants to control everything even Star Wars, Fahrenheit 451, Green Sun, ...
If you are looking for other similarities to Trump in a Sci-Fi book, I would say it is in "Battlefield Earth" and its 3 sequels by Ron Hubbard (the one who created Scientology), he received a lot of awards like the Hugo Sci-Fi Prize for this book. Ron Hubard before creating Scientology was one of the best writers, it was his job he made a fortune like that.
For your question : "How life imitates art in this regard ?". We are not experts in philosophy, history or political science to answer this question. 😊
I move your post to the Isaac Asimov's Discussions section.
