This program is so far off the original story, perhaps out of necessity, but I quickly came to the conclusion that I’ll have to enjoy this program, or not, based on it’s own merits. Not think of it as Asimov’s Foundation. Otherwise I‘d spend the entire series wondering (complaining?) about everything from questionable casting choices to profound deviations from the story.

It's not really deviation from the story yet. It's too early. Think of it like this: There was a 50 year gap in Asimov's book, from chapter 1 to chapter 2. What happened in those 50 years? The show is just filling that in.
