I'm so excited about this show, I dream of it in my sleep. That said, I have a complaint about the latest FOUNDATION trailer.
In the Exclusive Trailer Breakdown published by IGN, David Goyer says that a space elevator "is literally an elevator that stretches something like, 26 miles into space, out into orbit", which is a very reasonable description of what a space elevator should be. However, in the trailer there is a shot of the space elevator stretching out several hundred thousand miles, if not over a million miles, away from Trantor. It stretches so far away that you can see the entire sphere of the planet below the elevator.
Now, I understand how a shot can be metaphorical, like the one in which Spock watches the destruction of Vulcan with the naked eye from the surface of Delta Vega in JJ Abrams' Star Trek (2009), but I sincerely hope FOUNDATION steers clear from metaphorical shots like that.
I really hope this ridiculous shot gets edited out from the final cut of whichever episode it appears in. Of course, an exception to this would be if this space elevator actually stretches all the way up to a stationary moon of Trantor, or something of the sort, in which case the shot would actually make sense.
I hope David Goyer reads this!
Cheers!

A good paper writing service should provide you a number of different choices to choose from. In addition to providing high-quality papers at reasonable rates, they should be able to tailor their services to your individual requirements. You may probably talk to your writer (check more info here - https://goodmenproject.com/learning/best-services-to-hire-an-essay-writer-in-2021/ ) personally and take advantage of a variety of deals and special offers. If you visit their website or contact customer care, they should be willing to provide you with a sample of their work.
Here is an interesting article that elaborates on the size of the space elevator. Cheers! https://www.fxguide.com/fxfeatured/foundational-visual-effects/
For details on how a space elevator would work and could be built, I recommend reading "The fountains of paradise" by Arthur C. Clarke.
We don't know the mass of Trantor, but if density is similar to Earth we can estimate it as roughly 30% of Earth (correct me if I'm wrong). And a Trantor day is 1.08 Galactic Standard days, that I think we can assume are Earth days. And if all my calculations are correct, that would mean that geosync orbit would be about 70% of the Earth's geosync orbit. So yes, that would be very high, and since Trantor's radius is roughly 2/3 of the Earth's, that view where the planet looks very small seems about right.
For a TV show almost everything is acceptable. But, for instance, Earth diameter is 12.742 km, satellite geosync is 36.000 km (3 times diameter), Moon distance is 384.000 km. So geosync is about 10% of moon distance. That´s pretty far for a artificial "star bridge" to be built. If this structure fall, it would really be a necklace around the planet, because Earth perimeter is 40.000 km, so the necklace would embrace almost the full globe, just as said by Brother Day on the serie. Point to Mr. Goyer.
Oh well, David Goyer mentioned the 26 miles figure. Still, would a space elevator stretch so far to the point that the planet below looks like a tiny marble? If so, I stand corrected! Even so, after the attack, the wrecked space station appears to be much closer to Trantor than before. Brother Sun even says the bodies of the dead are burning up in the atmosphere, which implies proximity. How did the wreck get so close? I assume it should have drifted away, given its original distance. I think the distant shot was created like that for dramatic effect, with no concern to what the actual distance of the space station should be. I guess that's acceptable in a TV show.
We should consider that Trantor is 200 million square kilometers and the Earth is 510 million square kilometers, or about 40%, so the geostationary position must be about 8.894 miles. Still, it's VERY high.
Actually, to have a space elevator you need to have the center of mass at the geostationary orbit which is actually 22,236 miles up. So many space elevators in theory will be around twice that length, or will have a VERY massive counterweight past 22,236 miles so that as I said, the center of mass is AT 22,236 miles. Not sure where you got 26 miles from...
Geostationary orbit of the Earth is 22,236 miles. The shot is more accurate than the cited 26 miles.
Yes this one comes from the first teaser in June 2020. 😉
Agreed, Facebook groups are hard to compete with.
As for the space elevator, I like the shot you used as background for this site much better than the other one I mentioned above.
Yes you are right it is true that this space elevator seems disproportionate !
As it is a simple fan site, I hope indeed that David Goyer will one day read your post. 😊
I will move your post to the "Foundation discussions" section. This section is intended to provide ideas for improvement to the site and to help feed the characters and elements of the series.
I can't wait for the mobile app to finally be available on IOS and Android. This will allow many more people to join this forum and participate actively like you. With the various social network applications (Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), it is difficult in 2021 to keep a fan forum alive.
But we will soon have a social network dedicated to Foundation ! 😉
